At the moment the familiar environment of existence of a unique genre of folklore – the Yakut heroic epic olonkho is lost, and therefore epic tradition dies, disappears. This paper analyzes the diversified scientific and organizational work of single in the world Research Institute of Olonkho of the North-Eastern Federal University. The institute scientists for the purpose of conservation, distribution, promotion monuments of epic heritage of the Yakut people are leading on the historical and comparative study of olonkho with epics of the Turkic peoples of Southern Siberia, translation of olonkho into the languages of the world is organized, texts of olonkho is published, expeditions is conducted, collections of articles is published, information system "Olonkho" is developed.
