Poshman's fantasy or a random person in the Arkhangelsk science

Abstract. The reason for writing the article became a serious confusion in the presentation of the history of the Arkhangelsk North, which has made a two-volume book of Anton von Poshman “Arkhangelsk province in the economic, commercial, philosophical, historical, topographical, statistical, physical and moral review share with useful to all aforesaid parts remarks,” published 1802. The Author, directed to consult northerners “the true mystery of the Dutch way of purification, salting and putting herrings”, dedicated it to the Emperor Alexander I. Apparently, this can be explained by its effect on the subsequent confusion in the presentation of the northern historiography.
