International Finno-Ugric congresses: history and prospects

Abstract. History of the international congresses of Finno-Ugrians starts from the middle of the last century. The first scientific forum of scientists around the world involved in research of languages of the Finno-Ugric peoples, their spiritual and material culture, took place in 1960 in Budapest. Subsequent congresses have been held every 5 years, besides Hungary, also in Finland and the Soviet Union. In the late 20th century the three states-organizers were joined by another country - Estonia. Over the past 37 years 12 congresses were organized. Currently, the preparation of the 13 International Finno-Ugric Congress, which will be held in 2020 in Vienne, capital of Austria, began.
