Ways and forms of preserving the tradition of veneration of icons
in the period 1920-1930-ies (based on materials from Vologda)

Abstract. The article examines the ways and forms of the existence of the ancient tradition of veneration of icons in the conditions of the aggressive anti-church and anti-religious policies of the Soviet state in the 1920s-1930s. The theme is presented on the example of Vologda - an ancient russian orthodox city. It shows the struggle of the Orthodox community for saving important citywide icons and shrines, as well as protests. It is established that the tradition of veneration of icons was not destroyed. Reduced only the scope of its public existence.
