Work to improve the navigable condition of the rivers
of the Vychegda River system at the beginning of the 20th century*

Abstract. In this article, on the basis of prerevolutionary publications and archival documents, for the first time in historiography is considered the process of work on the survey of the Vychegda River and its tributaries and to bring the rivers of the Vychegda River system into a navigable state. These works were caused, along with the reasons for the economic development of the southern part of the Komi region, because the Vychegda River system was an integral part of the projected transit waterways - the Northern River Route connecting the Caspian and White Seas. The article develops views about the formation of the transport network of Russia in the XX century.
