The role of ethnological education in the preservation of cultures of small peoples of the North

in the historical perspective of the development of Arctic social research

Abstract. The article is devoted to the history and prospects of ecological education in Russia from the late nineteenth to early twenty-first century. The work discusses in detail the main ideas embodied in textbooks on Ethnography and Ethnology in the specified period. At the dawn of ethnographic science deals with relevant and current problems of the theory of ethnos, ethnogenesis, material and spiritual culture of the peoples of the world in the integration with other Sciences – geography, anthropology, sociology, archaeology, history, ethnic psychology and linguistics. During the twentieth century. ethnographic science was connected with the Northern studies and practice Soviet and post-Soviet construction in the North. A major role in its teaching and propaganda played institutions such as LSU, MSU, ins, Herzen state pedagogical University of A. I. Herzen, where he taught the leading anthropologists, linguists, Orientalists and severeide Russia. In the late 90-ies of the XX century and early XXI century has changed in Russia, the paradigm of liberal education, the focus was philosophical science – cultural studies, directly in contact with the ethnographic knowledge. In the ins, Herzen state pedagogical University. A. I. Herzen opened the Department of ethnoculturology, combining historical and ethnographic, linguistic and cultural education. In conclusion, the article noted the prospects of modern ethnological education with the aim of preserving the culture and languages of indigenous peoples of the North.
