Northern nature as an object of aesthetic perception: historical digression

Abstract. The article discusses the features of the aesthetic perception of nature by man in different historical periods. The author comes to the conclusion that in the Middle ages and early Modern times, people seemed attractive mainly "cultivated" landscapes transformed by human labor. The beauty of the "wild" nature in Russia began to be understood mainly only in the XVIII century, and the harsh landscapes of the Russian North became the object of aesthetic perception later.
