Sources of Veps literature

Abstract. The article deals with the history of the Veps literature, which has several times faced the qualms of choosing the graphical framework (Cyrillic or Latin) for constructing its script. The article analyzes the process of creating fiction and educational literature since the territorial expansion of the Karelian Labor Commune, when Veps population was merged into it (1924). The aim of the study is to trace the formation stages of the literature, identify the key features of its evolution in the Soviet time, map the current situation. The article highlights the main distinctive features of the literary works written by Veps in the Russian and Veps languages. At present, Veps literature is being created through the efforts of three regions: Vologda and Leningrad Regions, Republic of Karelia.
