Abstract. The presented article outlines the key issues of preparation for publication of thematic collections of documents and materials on the history of the secondary specialized education system in the European North of Russia. The main sources necessary for compiling collections of this kind are indicated. The similarities and differences of available sources are highlighted, which should be taken into account when sampling an array of information. The directions of actions necessary for a high-quality compilation of thematic collections of documents and materials on this issue are noted.
